J.I.D Went Crazy on the Kid | 2018 XXL Freshman Cypher
XXL released the first cypher of the 2018 Freshman season. Atlanta rapper, J.I.D, came out spitting fire with his lyrics during a recent cypher with Florida rapper, Ski Mask The Slump God.
J.I.D first began his music career when he released his first mixtape, Route of All Evil, back in 2012 that featured EarthGang and Stillz. His first mixtape really got people to notice his talent and he went from being a Domino's Pizza delivery boy, to an internationally known hip hop artist.
In his early career, J.I.D started growing his fanbase by booking a number of local shows while he started working on his second mixtape, Para Tu, which he dropped in October 2013. In 2014, J.I.D went on tour with EarthGang and Bas opening for California rapper, Ab-Soul, which brought him great recognition in the music industry. J.I.D began to make a lot of connections with major artists, which lead to him being introduced to North Carolina hip hop artist and producer, J. Cole.
Five years after J.I.D first hit the hip hop scene, he signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville label in February 2017 and released his first full length album The Never Story in March 2017. The hustle and grind did not stop there, because soon after J.I.D was back on the road for the Never Had Shit Tour with EarthGang, Lute, Chaz French, and Mereba. The young artist co-headlined the tour that included 15 performances in North America and 19 performances in Europe.
As for 2018, J.I.D has become the face of XXL’s 2018 Freshman Class, which is a magazine issue that recognizes the top 10 artists-to-watch. J.I.D has definitely become one of the most anticipated names on the list. You can check out J.I.D’s XXL interview and follow J.I.D on Instagram and Twitter.
